Obituary for Sarah L O'Dell
Sarah L O'Dell (nee Mitchell, 90, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away on September 30th, 2025. Born on February 26, 1935, in Rock Hill South Carolina. She was the daughter of Ulysses and Cynthia Mitchell and one of 22 children, she was married to Henry George O'Dell and together they made their home in Elyria, raising their family.
Sarah worked for Duffin Manufacturing until she and her husband opened and operated George's Place, and later co-owned Taste of Class restaurant with her daughter Carolyn Jackson. She retired from Horton's cleaning service after many years of service.
Known for her love of cooking. She used her skills to work in her local church. She enjoyed playing cards. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and friend, whose door was always open. She was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, and active in various social organizations. The Queen Of Hearts and a member of the Eastern Stars, Sidonia Chapter 69.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Sara Carolyn Jackson, Vanessa Fruci, George Henry (Gina) O'Dell and Olivia O'Dell, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren. Two sisters Maggie Joann Long of Rock Hill SC, Sadie Strickland of MD. Five Godchildren, Sharon Johnson, Winiferd Kennard, Veronica Kennard, Albert Kennard and Garnetta Kennard.
She was preceded in death by her husband George O'Dell, numerous siblings and one God child Alferd Kennard.
A visitation will be held on Friday October 17th, 2025, at 10AM and a celebration of
Life at 11AM. Second Baptist Church Located at 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, Ohio.
Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery 41600 Oberlin Elyria Rd, Elyria, Ohio 44035
Repass immediately after burial at Second Baptist Church. Friends will also be received at 164 Valley Forge Circle, Elyria, Ohio 44035
