Sarah Smith Obituary

Sarah Campman Smith, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sarah was a longtime resident of Glyndon, Maryland, and a faithful member of Reisterstown United Methodist Church since 1966. Born in West Middlesex on August 4, 1937, Sarah dedicated her life to the service of others. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from Indiana University and later pursued further studies at Loyola University Maryland. Her career in education spanned several decades, beginning as a math teacher before finding her true calling as a beloved guidance counselor in Carroll County, where she touched the lives of countless students. Sarah was the cherished wife of the late Atwood Russell Smith Sr., with whom she shared 58 years of marriage until his passing in 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Campman, her sisters, Gretchen Wilson and Patti Campman, and her grandson, Luke Smith. She is survived by her son, Rusty Smith and his wife Beth; and her daughter, Amy Shelley and her husband Terry. She was the proud grandmother of Joshua Smith, Luke Smith, Jessi Pearson, Jacob Shelley, Zach Shelley, and Nathan Shelley. Her legacy lives on through her seven great-grandchildren-Ellie, Rowan, Luke, Caleb, Tessa, Emery, and James-who will dearly miss their chats with her. She is also survived by her sister, Clara, and a large, loving circle of nieces and nephews. A true community spirit, Sarah was known for her frequent volunteering and her love for Glyndon. Her family will fondly remember her passion for soft-shell crabs, her famous three-bean casserole, her love of reading, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved. Family will receive friends at the Reisterstown United Methodist Church 246 Reisterstown Road Reisterstown, MD 21136 on Saturday January 24th from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon. Funeral services will be held at the Church on Saturday January 24th at 12:00 noon followed by a luncheon. Inurnment will take place privately at a future date in Baltimore National Cemetery.
