Sarah Catherine Welch (89) passed away at home on August 10, 2025. Sarah was born in Waco, Texas to Robert (Bob) Woodward and Catherine Woodward. She attended Stephen F. Austin High School, graduating in 1954. Sarah loved working in her uncle's flower shop where she could name every plant and flower with ease. Her family relocated to Abilene, Texas, where she attended business college. She first married George Arlen (Arlie) Adams and was blessed with daughters: Donna, Cindy and Debi. Later she married Eldin J. Lofgren and welcomed "the precious one and only," Glenn.

Many years later, Sarah met James David (Jim) Welch, and they were married for twenty-nine years until her passing. They resided in Caballo, New Mexico, and Sarah loved the mountains and green chilis.

Sarah never met a stranger and spread kindness wherever she went. She loved music, plants, flowers and all animals (except snakes!) Sarah was "mother" to about thirty-five dogs, cats and birds over the years. Her precious dachshund, Little Bit, was her constant shadow. Her fried chicken was legendary, and fortunately, we all know her secret. Each of her son-in-laws (and "wanna-be" son-in-law) swore they were her favorite-which was probably true. Sarah played the piano and especially loved playing hymns. Sarah was always happy. She continued to be quick-witted and funny, even up until the night before she passed away.

Sarah is survived by her husband, James David (Jim) Welch of Caballo, New Mexico; her daughters, Donna (Kirby) Hurley of New Braunfels, Texas, Cindy (Derek) Scott of Levelland, Texas, Debi Iden (John Tabor) of Lubbock, Texas, her son Glenn Lofgren of Lago Vista, Texas; her daughter-in-law Debbie (Curtis) Lilly of Las Cruces, New Mexico and her son-in-law, Jeff Keys, of Los Lunas, New Mexico. She leaves behind nine wonderful grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren whom she loved and enjoyed. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Catherine Woodward, her second husband, Eldin J. Lofgren, and her daughter-in-law, Tammy Keys.

The family will hold a private celebration of Sarah's life. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and relatives who offered love and support, and especially to Jim, who lovingly cared for our mom throughout their life together.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sarah's memory to the American Heart Association or AMD (American Macular Degeneration Foundation).
