Sarah Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shives Funeral Home - Trenholm Road Chapel on Jan. 29, 2026.
Ms. Sarah Elizabeth "Libby" Young, 77, of Lexington, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born on April 7, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Douglas Alexander Young, Jr. and Sarah Crow Young.

Libby was a proud 1966 graduate of Eau Claire High School. She continued her education there, completing cosmetology school and going on to build a successful career as a cosmetologist throughout Columbia. Libby later retired from ABC Hair Salon, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication to her craft.

Known for her iconic fashion sense, Libby loved shopping and expressing her creativity through memorable and stylish outfits. She also found joy in gardening, tending to flowers, which reflected her artistic spirit and appreciation for beauty. She also enjoyed traveling to the mountains, the beaches and cruising. Libby was especially a talented cook and baker. If you were a friend of Libby's, you would get a beautifully baked pound cake when you had a birthday.

Above all, Libby cherished her role as an aunt. She deeply valued time spent with her family and took great pride in creating lasting memories with those she loved. Libby was a kind and genuine soul, who was unconditionally loyal and supportive of her friends and family.

She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Mathias Brumbaugh (Phillip) of Lexington, SC and Barbara Daniels (Walter) of Fripp Island, SC; nephews and niece, Greg Paschal, Brandon Mathias, Tara Miner (John); and great nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank the staff at Westminster Memory Center and Hospice Care for providing exceptional care for their loved one during her final years.

The funeral service to honor Ms. Young's life will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, February 2, 2026, at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 o'clock until 2 o'clock at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia.

The family requests memorial donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate.
