Scarlet Kay Gerdts passed away on August 24, 2025, in Grain Valley, Missouri. Born on November 29, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas, to William Gordon and Irene Elliott, Scarlet was raised in Chillicothe, Missouri, where she developed strong values and a warmth that would touch many throughout her life.

Scarlet received her nursing degree from Research Medical Center and dedicated her career to caring for others. Her compassion and commitment to her patients were hallmarks of her professional life, making a lasting impact on those she served.

Beyond her impressive career, Scarlet was known for her love of life and her vibrant spirit. She shared many joyful moments square dancing with her belated husband, Kenny, a passion that brought them closer together. In her younger years, Scarlet enjoyed bowling and frequently traveled to casinos, creating treasured memories alongside Kenny. As a sports enthusiast, she passionately cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, often gathering with friends and family to watch the games. Additionally, in her spare time, she delighted in the quiet pleasure of putting together puzzles, a pastime that reflected her thoughtful nature.

Scarlet and Kenny took pride in their shared accomplishments, most notably their family and designing and building the house of their dreams, a testament to their partnership and love for each other. Scarlet shared over 62 years with Kenny, and raised a loving family together, including their son, Greg Gerdts, and daughter, Kenda Bartowski (Kenny). Scarlet's family continued to grow to include her grandchildren, Hayden Gerdts, Maribeth Doss (Jason), Kayla Millwater (Kristin), and Jay Millwater; and great grandchildren, William Doss, Evie Doss, Elijah Millwater, Isabella Millwater, and Crew Millwater. She also leaves behind her half-sister, Marlene. Scarlet is survived by numerous friends whose lives she enriched with her kindness and laughter. She will be dearly missed in her community and remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of others.

A graveside memorial service honoring Scarlet will be held on October 20, 2025, at 1 PM at Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Her legacy of love, care, and vibrant spirit will always remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
