Kenneth Lee Gerdts, affectionately known as Ken or Kenny, passed away on March 10, 2025, in Lee's Summit, Missouri, at the age of 82 years. Born on February 6, 1943, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Irvin and Hazel Gerdts, Ken led a life dedicated to his family.

Ken's professional journey began after graduating high school, where he pursued college courses before becoming an electrical lineman at Aquila Industries, a role that continued until the company was absorbed by Evergy. His work was marked by a strong commitment to providing for his family and the steadfast protection of those he loved. He often joked that he learned much from the school of hard knocks, a testament to his resilience and unwavering spirit.

Beyond his profession, Ken was known for his vibrant personality and varied interests. He found joy in bowling during his younger days and embraced the rhythm of life through square dancing. A lover of the outdoors, Ken cherished the moments spent on camping trips with his family and friends and frequented Pomme de Terre State Park. He also enjoyed tending to his yard, always taking pride in its beauty. Later in life, he discovered a passion for computer games, with Solitaire becoming a favored pastime.

Ken shared a remarkable marriage with his beloved wife, Scarlet "Kay" Gerdts, for over 62 years, a testament to their enduring love and companionship. Together they raised a family that included their son, Greg Gerdts, and daughter, Kenda Bartowski (Kenny), who brought them immense pride and joy. Ken's legacy continues to thrive through his grandchildren: Hayden Gerdts, Maribeth Doss (Jason), Kayla Millwater (Kristin), and Jay Millwater. His heart swelled with joy at the sight of his great-grandchildren, William Doss, Evie Doss, Elijah Millwater, and Isabella Millwater.

Ken is survived by his sisters, Judy Meins and Betty Burch, who will forever cherish memories of their time with their brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Hazel (Jenkins) Gerdts, as well as his siblings, Martha Rayl, Milton Gerdts, and Donald Gerdts.

Kenneth Lee Gerdts will be remembered for his kindness, commitment to his family, and the many lives he touched during his time with us. His legacy of love and strength will continue to encourage and inspire those he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ken's honor to the American Diabetes Association.
