Scott Harrison Brener, 75, of Apple River, passed away at his home on February 22, 2025. He was born to Donald and Amy (Harrison) Brener on September 22, 1949, in Chicago, IL. Scott graduated from Elgin Community College and the University of Illinois. He worked as a water plant operator and in administration in both Elgin and Love's Park.
Scott was well known for his knowledge on many different topics. If he didn't know an answer to a question, he would diligently research the topic until he was knowledgeable in that area.
He was involved with the Buelingo Beef Cattle Society, served on the board of directors for the Apple River Fire Protection District for several years, and was a member of the Apple River Lions for 8 years.
Scott is survived by his sister Judy Brener and brother Dave (Deborah) Brener; 1 nephew – Matthew (Carolyn) Brener; 1 niece- Bethany(Patrick) Rasmussen and 5 great nieces: Alice, Matilda and Greta Brener, Hattie and Eleanor Rasmussen.
He was preceded by his parents and 1 brother Tom Brener.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Apple River United Methodist Church in Apple River, IL.
A time of fellowship with desserts is to follow at the church.
Pastor Libby Rutherford will be officiating the service.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name for the American Heart Association.
