Richard Frederick Brener

Richard Brener, a quiet, steady soul whose gentle strength provided a solid anchor for his family, went home to the Lord on September 16 th, 2025, at the age of 94.

Born on April 10 th, 1931 in Shawano, Wisconsin to Maurice and Elvira Brener, Richard grew up with the curiosity and determination that would shape his life. At just ten years of age he built his own car powered by a washing machine motor, a sign of the mechanical gifts that later defined his career. He earned his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and later moved to Milwaukee, where he spent his professional life as chief engineer with Harnischfeger Corporation designing overhead cranes until his retirement in 1988.

Richard married his beloved wife Marlene on February 9 th, 1963, and together they shared a life built on faith and family. He was the proud father of Jeff (Liz) Brener and Kristin (Tim) Larsen, uncle of Judy and Dave Brener, and the devoted grandfather of Maggie and Adam Brener, and Jacob, Evan, and Annika Larsen. His heart was fullest in the company of his family, who will remember him as steady, gentle, and deeply reliable.

Quiet by nature, Richard nevertheless spoke volumes through his actions. His calm and unflinching composure, his careful preparedness, and his ability to fix nearly anything with his impressive collection of tools brought both comfort and security to those around him. He loved cars, especially Buicks, and found joy in the intricate workings of engines and machines. Richard also had a lifelong love of music, often playing a lively boogie woogie tune on the piano, or applying his rare gift of perfect pitch while singing bass in the St. Mark's choir.

Richard's faith as a lifelong Lutheran was central to his life and gave him peace. His family takes comfort in the assurance that he now rests in Christ's eternal care, reunited with his parents, Elvira and Maurice, his brother, Don, and his nephews Tom and Scott.

Richard embodied the words of 1 Peter 3:4: " Let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. " He leaves behind a family who will forever be grateful for his steady presence, his quiet wisdom, and the love that flowed through his calm and reassuring presence.
