Scott “Cliffy” Burkholder, age 64, of Moorpark, California, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2025.

Born on August 23, 1961, in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, Scott grew into a man defined by intelligence, integrity, curiosity, and an enduring love for both family and adventure. He made Moorpark his home, where he built a life rich in purpose, connection, and laughter.

After graduating from Tulane University, Scott began his career serving the United States Navy. Following a decade of active service, he continued his commitment through civil service, where he played a vital role in leadership and innovation at Point Mugu Naval Base. Highly respected by colleagues and peers alike, Scott was known for his problem-solving abilities, steady commitment, and exceptional depth of knowledge. Early in his career, he earned the call sign “Cliffy,” a name that followed him proudly and affectionately, reflecting his uncanny ability to always seem to know the answer.

Beyond his professional achievements, Scott lived with an unmistakable zest for life. He embraced adventure wholeheartedly and found joy in discovering the world and the wilderness. Those who loved him will always remember the way he lit up when discovering a beautiful view. He always seemed to find a path to the most beautiful places, often choosing to explore nature, sometimes pulling over to climb up a random path to see what could be seen. He had a gift for connecting with people, effortlessly making friends wherever he went, whether on the side of a mountain, in a quiet café line, or at the table of a new favorite restaurant.

Scott was a lover of old movies and television shows, quoting them endlessly and with great delight—often to the amusement of those who didn’t quite catch the reference. His brilliant mind, boundless curiosity, fierce loyalty, and willingness to help made him someone you could always turn to; if there was a problem, Scott would find a solution, and do so selflessly with enthusiasm and care.

Above all else, Scott loved his family deeply and freely. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria; his brother, Steve; his children, Marilyn, Alan, and Rio; and his bonus children, Sal, Andrew, and Marissa. He shared countless adventures with Maria, seeking out new experiences, great meals, and meaningful moments, always side by side.

Scott faced life’s challenges head-on, with honesty, courage, and an energy that inspired those around him. His legacy is one of love, wisdom, service, and a life fully lived.
