Scott Russell Farnsworth, 77, of Portland, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2025, at his home while doing what he enjoyed- tending to his yard and garden.

Born on August 15, 1947, in Portland, Scott grew up with a deep love for his hometown and the people who filled his life. Known for his kindness, patience, sense of humor, and reliability, he left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was the person friends and family could always count on - a great listener, a thoughtful problem-solver, and someone who brought both steadiness and joy to those around him.

After graduating high school, Scott proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1966 to 1970. His service instilled in him a strong sense of duty, discipline, and respect that carried throughout his life.

Following his time in the Coast Guard, Scott built a career defined by professionalism, organization, and dedication. He was admired by colleagues for his work ethic and by friends for his balance of hard work and lighthearted humor.

Scott also loved the simple pleasures of life - working outdoors, keeping his home and garden in perfect order, and enjoying time with those he loved. He had a lifelong passion for automobiles, whether it was maintaining, restoring, or simply appreciating them, and he found great joy in sharing this interest with others. He was happiest when surrounded by family, and his warmth and laughter will be deeply missed at every gathering.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Jay Pershing and Vera Virgina Farnsworth, and his younger brother Stuart. Scott is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Linda; their children, Jennifer (John) Wright, Andrea (Jonathan) Dolp, and Stephen (Tami) Farnsworth; their beloved grandchildren, Ben, Kyle (Francesca), Nicholas, Davis, Andrew, and Allie as well as his older brother, Jeff (wife Nguyet) Farnsworth.

Scott's life was a beautiful example of quiet strength, integrity, and love. Though his passing was sudden, the memories he created and the legacy he leaves will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.

An informal gathering to celebrate Scott's life will be held at Cook Park on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to come together, share memories, and honor the life of a truly remarkable man. Casual attire is encouraged; it will be a simple outdoor celebration of Scott in the way he lived - with warmth, laughter, and love.

The entire Farnsworth family would like to express their appreciation for your generous and loving support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you kindly treat others with love and kindness, or donate to a cause you admire.
