Scott Hurd Obituary

Scott Allen Hurd of Matthews, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, surrounded by family. He was 56. Scott is survived by his father, Lorny Hurd, and stepmother, Liz Hurd, of East Aurora, NY; his wife, Cathy Hurd, of Matthews, NC; his children and stepchildren, Ava Hurd, Jaden Hurd, Mia Kapetanakis, Ava Kapetanakis, Jordan Phillips (Sydney), and Landon Phillips (Zach); his brother, Dan Hurd (Jennifer) of East Aurora; his sister, Micki McMann, of Sebastian, FL; his stepsister, Jennifer Fee, of East Aurora; his first wife, Kaia Sherman, of Matthews; his devoted dogs, Frankie and Winston; and more friends than anyone could count. Scott has been reunited with his beloved late mother, Bobette Rindell Hurd.Scott graduated from East Aurora High School in 1987 and attended Buffalo State University. Known invariably for his infectious laugh and kind, fun-loving demeanor, it was in East Aurora that Scott was introduced to the first love of his life-the Buffalo Bills. His passion for all things Bills was only surpassed by his love for family-his parents, his wife and children, his siblings, and his many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins-even when they inevitably beat him at the card table in Hearts.Scott worked at Skyline Design and Landscape, where he oversaw bidding for the companys construction division and general operations. He cherished his spring trips to Jekyll Island, GA, and his summer visits to his familys cabin in the Adirondacks. There, at the lake, he was reunited each summer with a multitude of family and friends, and it was there he married his beloved wife, Cathy, in 2011.Scott will be affectionately remembered for keeping everyone laughing, for cooking massive and masterful meals for his extended family, for his love of the Bills, for his fondness of the movie "Pitch Perfect," for giving the best hugs, and for always being up for anything. An unabashed practical joker, he will be less fondly remembered for the time he hid under Nephew Coltons bed and scared the heck out of him.In Scotts words, "Go Bills!"Graveside Services in celebration of Scott's life will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. A reception will be held from 3pm until 6pm at the Flying Biscuit Cafe, 110 Matthews Station Street, Matthews, NC 28105.
