Scott was born on July 23, 1972, in Olathe, KS, to Vicky Mahaffie and Michael Phegley. He grew up in Olathe and went Olathe North High School. He later attended the University of Kansas (KU).
He loved watching KU basketball games, the Royals, and the Chiefs. He especially looked forward to Shark Week, which always aired close to his birthday.
