Scott was born on July 23, 1972, in Olathe, KS, to Vicky Mahaffie and Michael Phegley. He grew up in Olathe and went Olathe North High School. He later attended the University of Kansas (KU).

He loved watching KU basketball games, the Royals, and the Chiefs. He especially looked forward to Shark Week, which always aired close to his birthday.

Scott was a lighthearted and clever person who could light up any room with his humor. There was never a dull moment around him—he always found a way to make others laugh.

Over the course of his career, he held various roles at multiple car dealerships, beginning in sales and later transitioning to the service department as an advisor. He had a natural ability to connect with people.

Scott passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at KU Medical Center, after suffering a stroke. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife, Tedra; stepchildren, Eliot & Amelia Clements; mother, Vicky Mahaffie; father, Michael Phegley; brother, Rob; sister-in-law, Sylvia; nieces, Chloe & Mia; grandmother, Lottie Phegley; uncle, Dwayne Mahaffie; aunt, Cathy Foster; cousin Devin Mahaffie and daughters Vivian, Bella and Maggie; cousin Dana (Brian) Szala; cousin Deena (Nick) Rawie and daughters Brooklyn and Madelyn, Greg (Janelle) Mahaffie and Kristin (Richard) Mendoza of California, Christina Davis of Wisconsin, and Doug Sutton of Missouri; life-long friends, Jeff Norris & Mike Monteil; and many other beloved family members.

While he may be gone, his love and memory remain ever near.
