Joe A. Phegley, 89, passed away August 7, 2025, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis disease. He was born on June 6, 1936, to his late parents, Dennis J. and Pansy C. Phegley. He was a loving husband for 65 years to Barbara G. Phegley and the loving father to J. Kevin and the late Jeffrey M. Phegley. Joe also leaves behind a large extended family, including two sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, cousins and godchildren, and a close circle of friends. In addition to his parents and son, he was predeceased by his younger brother Dennis. Joe will be forever loved and missed.
Joe was a chemical purchasing manager for the Drackett Company prior to his retirement in the mid-1990s. He graduated with a B.A. degree in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He was an avid reader and golf enthusiast. He enjoyed gardening and singing in barbershop quartet and men's choral groups over the years. Joe enjoyed vacationing with his family and living part-time at Kiawah Island, South Carolina, where he owned a condominium for 22 years.
In accordance with his wishes no public service will be held. Joe asked to be cremated and a private service will be held in Illinois by his family at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a children's or animal charity of one's choice.
