Scott A. Sauer was born to Donald and Helen (McDaniel) Sauer on July 18, 1962, in Mobridge, South Dakota. He grew up in Java, attending school there, and graduated high school in 1980. Following high school, Scott moved to Aberdeen.
On July 9, 1982, Scott married Renita Kindel in Selby, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Aberdeen. They were blessed with one daughter, Erica. Scott worked at Taylor Music and Engel Music in Aberdeen for several years.
Scott and his friend Kevin Pleinis started Pauer Sound in Aberdeen in 1997. In 1999, Scott and Renita took full ownership. They continued to own and operate the business for many years. Pauer Sound and Music was recognized in 1998 as ACT's Business of the Year. He was also nominated for an Abby Award in Community Involvement-Business and People's Choice in 2003. He had not sought out this recognition, which is a testament to his humility. He was more interested in giving and doing a job well than receiving accolades. In 2023, due to Scott's health, they sold the business to their employee Alex Bartlett.
Scott was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed riding his Harley, but he enjoyed music most, beginning at the age of four when his dad took him to a Johnny Cash concert. He immediately begged for a guitar, and his wish was granted when he received one as a Christmas gift later that year. By age six, Scott joined a band with three girls called "Four Cat Day," one-upping the band "Three Dog Night." Scott was also in two rock bands, "First World" and "Nightwing" and two country bands, "Hard Copy" and "County Line."
Grateful for having shared Scott's life is his wife of 42 years, Renita; his daughter Erica Sauer of Aberdeen; his brother Donald (Noreen) Sauer of Mobridge, SD; and two sisters, Debra (Brian) Johnson of Fargo, ND, and Kimberly (Terry) Simon of Aberdeen.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents.
