Scott Harold Smith, age 62, of Clyde Township, passed away on December 17, 2025, at home. He was born on August 27, 1963, to Harold (Jane Clay) Smith and Madeline (James) Burdick.
On July 9, 1998, Scott married Samantha Lynn Smith, his treasured wife for 37 years.
He is survived by his wife, Samantha Lynn Smith; children, Kimberly (Brent) Woolman, Colleen (Joe) Provost, and Dave Smith; granddaughter, Ella Grace Woolman; siblings, Kevin (Deanna) Smith, Harold Smith, and Angela (James) Mount; sister-in-law Kathie Smith; nieces and nephews, Amanda (Joe) Doyle, Jessica Paterson, Kyle Groh, Ashley Smith, Josh (Breanna) Smith, Max (Megan) Smith, and Austin Smith; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Paul Smith, nephew Nathan Groh, and his adored dog, Pickles.
Scott worked as an Operating Engineer, first with Roncelli and then Eagle Excavation for 28 years where he retired in 2024, leaving behind a legacy of numerous contributions to the Detroit infrastructure, including Ford Field, Comerica Park, and Campus Martius. He was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 324 for 30 years.
Thanksgiving was Scott's favorite holiday, and he and Samantha were known for hosting the most heartwarming gatherings that became the benchmark for family celebrations. He tinkered with countless projects. Scott was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed snowmobiling. He loved his Newfoundland dogs, his garden, and being with his family.
Scott lived a full life, rich with experiences that shaped him into a man of integrity and kindness. His unwavering support, deep laughter, and heartwarming presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
A celebration of Scott's life will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial Life Celebration Center, 4521 Ravenswood Road, Kimball, MI 48074.
