Scott Spaeth Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & Casey Funeral Home - Salmon on Aug. 25, 2022.
Scott Ralph Spaeth was born August 26, 1950, in Melrose, Minnesota to Ralph Joseph and Olive Cherie (Mayes) Spaeth. He was the third of five children. With a father in the Navy and other family demands, family moves were frequent. By the time Scott had reached the age of 13, he had lived in seven states only to return as a family unit to Melrose. In 1966 they moved once again to Shoup, Idaho to manage a Post Office with extended family. The family decided that Shoup may have been a bit too remote and therefore settled in Salmon. This is where Scott met Dianne Gilpin. Dianne was the love of his life and at the early age of 16, he knew they were meant to be together forever. In 1967, his family once again moved back to Melrose. This was a short term move for Scott who secretly took off in his 1955 Ford and drove back to Salmon. He continued high school, worked as the school janitor, and later married Dianne prior to graduating from the class of 1969. Through this union came two children, Amye Lynn (1969) and Randal Scott (1973). During their early married years, Scott initially worked at the Conoco. Within a short period of time, he started working for Nep Lynch at North Fork Lumber. Once the mill was no longer, Scott began to drive truck and then moved into work at Champion International Sawmill. He then went on to drive truck for Dick Austin, hauling beams from QB. Law enforcement then became an interest and Scott worked as a City Police Officer and Deputy sheriff/Dispatch over several years. Scott also enjoyed time with the Fish and Game. He had short stints back in a semi working for both Doug Andrus Trucking and Arlo Lott Trucking.
Scott had a passion and interest in handcrafting instruments along with playing guitar and mandolin. His interest in instruments, music, and serving the community led to starting his own business, Fiddle Styx.
After the passing of his wife, Scott was able to enjoy time and many trips together with Carol Jeanne Varilone. Their friendship grew into a very strong bond where they enjoyed one another s companionship. During his illness, Scott resided in Soda Springs with Jeanne where he spent his final days.
Scott is survived by his children Amye (Dan) Gilio of Bates City, Missouri, Randy (Stacey) Spaeth of Malta, Idaho, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and life friend Carol Jeanne Varilone. Siblings include David (Jackie) Spaeth of Bentonville, Arkansas, Gary Spaeth of Redway, California, and Joy (Lance) Westad of Lake Hackensack, Minnesota. Scott was preceded in death by his wife Dianne (Gilpin) Spaeth, parents Ralph and Cherie Spaeth, sister Sandy Abshire, and both sets of grandparents.
