Sean Embry Obituary

Sean Whelan Embry
June 15, 1960 - February 11, 2026
"Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince, / And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." Hamlet (Act V, Scene II)

Sean Embry passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on February 11, 2026, at the age of 65. Sean was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and he attended Incarnate Word Academy and Del Mar College. In later years, Sean lived and worked in San Antonio, where his aptitude with computers led him to employment at Northside Independent School District and Rackspace.

From his early childhood, trains fascinated Sean. At the age of three when asked what he thought of a steam engine whistle, Sean grinned and replied, "Music." Sean loved filming trains, riding on trains, and collecting model trains. He participated in and supported the San Antonio train museum. On his deathbed he smiled when his nephew-in-law played train sounds for him.

Sean was also passionate about cooking. He loved to try new recipes and spice combinations. He made heavenly cheesecakes and brought them to holiday dinners to the delight of all.

In addition to his many interests and talents, Sean was a kind and gentle soul. He helped anyone who needed help-family, friends, strangers. He was funny, intelligent, well-read, and a superb human being. He will be missed.

Sean was a member of a pioneer Corpus Christi family, the grandson of Peter James and Katherine Kelly Whelan (later Mrs. Katherine Quinn), who were also born in Corpus Christi. Sean was a descendant of Peter Dunn and James McBride and of Martin Kelly and William Cody, all of whom came to Corpus Christi from Ireland in the 1840s and 1850s. Sean had many connections to Irish descendants in Nueces County, including Whelan, Kelly, McBride, Dunn(e), Cody, Gallagher, McDonough, and Golla families. Sean is predeceased by his parents, Mr. John Harrison Embry, Jr. of Oklahoma, and Dr. Cecelia Whelan Embry of Corpus Christi. He is also predeceased by his beloved sister, Mary Embry Katcher, and his niece Katherine "Katie" Katcher of League City, Texas.

Sean is survived by his sister Katherine Embry De Mott and brother-in-law Joseph De Mott; sister Margaret Embry; his niece Eileen De Mott Curtright and husband Lance Curtright; nephew Jeffrey Katcher and wife Mariah Espinosa Katcher; nephew John De Mott and partner Mary Mings; niece Sarah Fuchs; great nieces Liza, Eleanor, and Vivian Curtright, as well as numerous cousins and friends throughout the United States.

Funeral arrangements are with Seaside Memorial, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78412. Pallbearers will be Joseph De Mott, John De Mott, Lance Curtright, David Tiggeman, Steve Katcher, and Jeffrey Katcher. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the San Antonio Food Bank in Sean's memory.
