RUTLAND: Sean E. O'Connell, a great man who will be remembered fondly by all who were lucky enough to know him, passed away on Sunday, April 14, at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born January 11, 1964, in Worcester.

Sean is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Judene A. (Mullen) O'Connell, his daughter Erika Mullen-O'Connell, and his loyal dog Rocky. He is also survived by his brothers: Michael O'Connell (Joanne), Thomas O'Connell (Tammy); and sisters: Gale Garrity (Michael), Debra Mahoney (Joseph), Cheryl Carlson (James), Michele Poirier, and Erin Thomson; as well as his brother-in-laws: Michael Mullen (Cathy), Mullen Sawyer (Iliana), and Irving Gonzalez.

In addition to his immediate family, Sean leaves behind a great many nieces and nephews who meant the world to him. Among them, he held a special place in his heart for his nephew Evan M. Sawyer, and nieces Jasmine E. Sawyer, and Emma R. Sawyer.

Sean was preceded in death by his parents Michael J. O'Connell, Jr., and Marion (Davis) O'Connell.

He graduated from Burncoat High School, Quinsigamond Community College, and Worcester State College with his Bachelors’ Degree in Nursing. Sean's colleagues remember him as a compassionate and skilled nurse who always put the well-being of his patients first.

A dedicated family man with a heart a gold, and a wicked sense of humor. Sean's life was marked by his compassion as a Psychiatric Nurse and his commitment to helping and caring for those of the greatest need, whether his patients, or a homeless person he passed on the street.

Sean had many interests that brought him joy. He and his wife loved gardening and created beautiful gardens at their home. He had a talent for cooking, and when asked what his favorite food was, he responded “Am I supposed to choose between the cuts of meat?” A true New England sports fan at heart, Sean was an avid supporter of the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed camping in his RV and cherished the time spent with his family.

His kindness, dedication, strong will, and warm spirit, as well as his silly antics like his mad dog bark, will be deeply missed by all. Sean's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched during his time on earth.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23 From 4:00-7:00 PM in Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 24th at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester.
