Sean Michael Oliverson: Our Hero
Gina said goodbye to her big, strong, brave, handsome husband on Sunday. His mortal life begins where it ends, this is is his story:
53 years ago Kris and Mike Oliverson gave birth to Sean on October 7th, 1970 in Logan, Utah He was a beautiful, headstrong, determined, thoughtful little boy. They were so proud of him. He was adored!
This new little family started their adventure of life in faith and love as Mike's honorable military career proceeded to move them all over the country and Sean welcomed in and ruled over one sister and three brothers. Sean found safety in living life in exactness. However, he felt justified in indulging in his one guilty pleasure: a love of rock and roll, and occasionally was found sneaking some Def Lepard on his AM transistor radio under his pillow at night. Sean leaned on his athletic abilities, especially playing football and baseball to help in the many moves of military life, as well as his religion and child-like faith and complete devotion to Christ, which sustained him each day of his life. And then there was fishing fly fishing the thread of light and truth that made the world make sense.
Sean loved his mission and served in Cape Town, South Africa. He graduated valedictorian from Utah State. Little did he know that during his last year at Utah State, he had caught the eye of a care-free, rule-breakin', wild- hearted freshman co-ed, who was used to turning lots of heads, but couldn't turn his! He left Logan and attended OHSU School of Dentistry, where he did his orthodontic residency and graduated with Top honors. As Sean's bachelorhood, at age 29, was his Grandma's great concern, he was set up on a blind date by a cousin and there she was his complete opposite, and future wife, but this time, not only his head was turned but his whole life was turned upside down. And Gina and Sean knew by the end of the date that they had found their person.
They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, in December 1999 and were blessed with Jace and Ellie, born a year apart, the joy of Sean's life. He loved cheering them on in sports, and their educational goals. And then for the cherry on top, sweet Josie sealed the deal as a long-awaited blessing to complete the family circle and became Sean's fishing, golfing and Star Wars partner.
Sean never once missed a day of work in all the years he owned his orthodontic practice. He loved and appreciated his staff and partners. They were great blessings in his life. Dr O took pride in giving excellent care to his thousands of patients and was much loved by the Ogden Community.
Sean is survived by his wife Gina, children Jace Sean, Ellie Kay, Josie Kristine, his parents Michael & Kristine Oliverson, brothers, Tyler (Megan) Oliverson, Mark (Stacie) Oliverson, Brad (Charlsie) Oliverson, his sister Kimberly (Aaron) Christensen and in-laws Kent & Louise McArthur, sisters-in-law Maria (Chris), Annalisa (Mike), and brother-in-law Jared (Brooke).
Sean proudly and silently battled illness. He never wanted to burden others and throughout his life he consistently put his wife and children first, always caring for their emotional, physical and spiritual safety. He put their need and security before his own time and time again. He was an introvert living an extroverted life. Sean had grit, mental strength, intelligence, discipline, and most of all a love and understanding of Christ and His Amazing Grace. In the end, he made sure his family was taken care of, he found peace in his religion, he learned the great truth of this life: Love is all that matters. Gina and his children know how much he loved them and that he found and lived his purpose and that they can do the same. In recent months, his illness became painful and debilitating. On February 25, 2024 Sean went home to the open arms of his lifelong best friend, Jesus Christ. Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend..we are so proud of him. And he is adored.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 12noon. Viewings will be Wednesday, 6-8 pm and prior to services 10-11:30 am, at Weber Heights Stake Center, 1401 Country Hills Dr., Ogden, Utah.

Ben and I both love the Oliversons. They lived in our neighborhood and were terrific people. Did all of the kids braces too. Thanks for that. One Sunday the teacher gave out sticky, chewy, candy to the kids and all of them had to go see Sean that week. Gina is a sweetheart. She was a great teacher in the YW class in our ward. What a wonderful family. We are thinking of you!
