In Loving Memory
Gary Grant Chugg
July 22, 2025 | Age 82
Riverdale, Utah
Gary Grant Chugg, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Riverdale, Utah, on July 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Washington Terrace, Utah, Gary spent the past 40 years in Riverdale. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was married to his High school sweetheart Kathy Pogue on October 1, 1964 for time and eternity in the Logan, Temple.
Gary was part of the first graduating class of Bonneville High School, where he stood out as a scholar-athlete. He was proud that he had earned his letterman jacket. While he excelled on the baseball field and basketball court. As a senior, he was named an All-Star in baseball, playing first base.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Chugg; his children: Corey (Danielle Chugg), Holly (Marsha Eubank), and Eric (Amanda Chugg), his sister, JoAnn Brown, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Mildred Chugg, and his brother, Kraig Victor Chugg.
Gary honorably served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, including time as a medic during the Vietnam War. He also worked as a crane operator at Hill Air Force Base, continuing his service there as a civil servant after his military retirement.
Affectionately known as "The Candyman," Gary was always ready with a sweet treat, be it a candy bar, soda, cookie, or even a silver coin, for anyone who stopped by. He taught us that kindness doesn't need a reason, and generosity doesn't need a reward. His spirit of giving will live on in every hand he touched and every heart he warmed.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gary served a mission in Edinburgh, Scotland. Throughout his life, he held many callings, including ward clerk, executive secretary, and service missionary in the Jefferson 1st Ward in Ogden, Utah. He and Kathy became known for handing out candy to children from the trunk of their car after church. Gary found deep fulfillment in temple service, especially in the baptistry, and performed hundreds of endowments for the deceased. He took great pride in his final calling as the ward building cleaning specialist, always ensuring the chapel was spotless.
Gary deeply cherished time spent with family and friends, especially during lively games of Pinochle, where laughter and lasting memories were always abundant.
In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in his honor to the Tunnel 2 Towers organization @T2T.org
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
