Duard "Boyd" Chugg 89 of Rupert passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
Duard Boyd Chugg was born on April 21, 1936 in Ogden, Utah to Duard Bailey Chugg and Beatrice Selma Smith. He was born with the drive to achieve whether it was in sports, friendships, business, or in religion. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family grew up on a small farm in
Rupert, Idaho, where his parents Duard and Beatrice Chugg farmed and always had horses for work and pleasure. Boyd was a natural at riding horses. Boyd is the oldest of five siblings. His siblings are Carolyn, Bryce, Janice, and Sharon who have predeceased him.
Boyd was encouraged to develop his talent in sports by his Grandmother Rose. She gave him a very good, leather, full-sized football when he was in second grade. This sparked his interest in football which carried him all the way to playing high school and later college football at Ricks College. His love for football continued throughout his life. He also watched it and loved to discuss the play by plays.
Boyd had many friends who deeply respected him. He built many friendships during the hunting seasons where he rode his horse up and down the mountains. Riding horses to him was as good as the hunt. He also helped friends financially and by giving service.
Boyd was both a farmer and cattle rancher in
Rupert, Idaho and a high school teacher at Declo, Idaho. Farming and raising cattle were his love. He enjoyed getting up early and working the ground. He grew potatoes, sugar beets, and grain as his main crops. He worked to always improve the land. Later he started raising hogs and eventually had one of the largest operations in Idaho. He taught history, science, and drivers' education at the high school. He also coached wrestling and took 2nd place at state. Another year they took 3rd place.
Enduring to the end was important to him. He served a mission in the North Central States Mission. He served in the Bishop's Storehouse. Later in life he served as a worker in the Twin Falls Temple. In church, he shared his knowledge of the gospel. He increased his knowledge of the gospel by avidly reading many books. Throughout his choices in life, he focused on his final goal of enduring to the end.
He is survived by his children: Ann (Gil) Dickinson of Westminster, CO; Guy (Jennifer) Chugg of Salt Lake City, UT; Jayne (Mark) Jensen of Hyde Park, UT, and Lance (Cristina) Chugg of Knoxville, TN. He had many grandchildren and great grandchildren: Shannon (Jakob) Stalbur and daughters Hannah and Harper; Gillian, Riley and Morgan Chugg; Jeremy (Tammy) Jensen and children Megan, Caleb, Joshua, Jacob, Jonathan and Peter; Cherie (Cristian) Naranjo and children Tiegan, Raiden, Izaiah, Rhyder, Izabella; Keith (Brittany) Jensen and children Adalynne and Gwendalyn; Sarah (Preston Cooper) Chee and children Kaylah and Emmalyn; Anne-Marie Chugg, Hailee (Logan) Burris, and Mason, Samuel, Adele and Sophie Chugg.
He is survived by his wife Ida Lassen Taylor Chugg and her children Nancy Nielson of Leamington, UT, Clark Nielson of Leamington, UT, Terri (Jay) Hotvedt of Draper, UT, and Julie (Reid) Hales of Draper, UT. He had many grandchildren and great grandchildren: Emma and Michael Banks and children Layne, Boyd, May and Rose; Spencer and Brittnee Nielson and children Gordon and Jack Nielson; Kyle and Anine Mahoney and children Kaylie and Zoe; Kyle and Brynn Hotvedt and child Lila; Christoffer, Katrine, and Anna Hotvedt; Emily and Stephen Kunz and children Charlie, and Ellie; Jonathan and Emily Hales; Jacob and Bekah Hales and child Jameson; Isaac and Joseph Hales.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Rupert 4th Ward Chapel 26 South 100 West
Rupert, Idaho 83350 . Viewing for family and friends will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2025 at Hansen Mortuary 710 6th Street Rupert Idaho 83350 and for one hour prior to the services at the Church. Services will conclude with burial at the Rupert Cemetery under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
