Thomas Cook Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Premier Funeral Services - Roy on Feb. 4, 2026.
Thomas Kayle Cook, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 92. He was born on April 30, 1933, in Fountain Green, Utah, to Thomas and Anna (Nielson) Cook.

Tom, as he was affectionately known, grew up in a farming family in Fountain Green, where he graduated from Moroni High School and later attended Snow College. From 1953 to 1955, Tom honorably served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western Canadian Mission. Upon returning, he was drafted into the US Army until 1958. In 1958, he attended Utah State University. He married his eternal companion, Barbara Weight, in the Manti Utah Temple, on July 22, 1960. Together, they raised four children in their home in the East Millcreek neighborhood of Salt Lake City, creating a home filled with faith, love, and service.

Professionally, Tom dedicated his career to auto repair. He was known for his quiet dependability, integrity, hard work, and willingness to help others. Tom's life was deeply rooted in his faith. He served in numerous church callings, including serving four full-time missions with his faithful companion. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Barbara; his children Cherie (Scott) Day, Lowell (Linda) Cook, Kaylene (Edward) Fetzer, and Bonnie (David) Robinson; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Roy Utah South Stake Center, 5725 S 3750 W, Roy UT 84067. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fountain Green Cemetery in Fountain Green, UT, the following day February 7, 2026 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS Church's Humanitarian Fund. Tom's legacy of faith, family, and kindness will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered until we meet again.

I want to express some of my memories and feelings about my Uncle Tom as he passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026. He was a wonderful example of family-focused diligence and someone I truly looked up to.

Growing up, I have fond memories of visiting my cousins and playing in their backyard. As I recall, the yard was filled with apple, cherry, and apricot trees, and I know Uncle Tom was instrumental in creating and maintaining such a productive space. He was an expert at pruning fruit trees to ensure the best yield. I loved eating that delicious fruit when it was ripe.

I also recall visiting his shop, Tom's Auto Service Center, where he worked for decades as a steady provider for his family. Even after a battery explosion damaged one of his eyes, he continued through life with remarkable resilience and capability.

Uncle Tom was incredibly generous and kind. I still remember when your family let our family borrow your car and trailer for a trip to California. Though we had some trouble with the trailer jack once we arrived, your willingness to help us enjoy that trip is something I will always cherish.

Tom's dedication extended to his faith as well. Whenever we visited and attended church with your family, I observed how diligently he served in his various ward callings. Even in his later years, I remember how he would never hesitate to kneel with Barbara for morning or evening prayer, offering heartfelt gratitude and pleadings to the Lord.

I admire that Barbara and he and served several missions for the church. Their example has been a catalyst for my wife and me to serve a mission as well.

I know the Lord will continue to use Tom's skills and unwavering dedication on the other side of the veil.

With great love and appreciation for Tom's dedicated life,

Ron Chapman
