Michael Oveson Obituary

Our beloved father, husband, brother, son, and friend, Michael Wayne Oveson, was born on January 21, 1979, to Kenneth and Janet Oveson in Salt Lake City, Utah. Everyone who knew Mike as a child tells unending stories of his rambunctious, adventurous, and fun-loving nature, traits which he remained well-known for his entire life.

Mike attended Alta High School, where he played trombone, made countless Slurpee runs, and met the love of his life, Mary Horrocks. Shortly after his graduation, he was called to serve in the Jamaica Kingston Mission, where he faithfully, devotedly, and passionately served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He proudly carried his love for Jamaica and its people throughout his entire life.

A quick five weeks after returning home, he proposed to the apple of his eye, Mary. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 20, 2000, and began their eternal companionship, the greatest joy of each of their lives. His fierce love, devotion, and adoration for Mary were apparent to any who had the blessing of meeting them.

As they built their life together, Mike and Mary were thrilled to be blessed with five beautiful and beloved children over their 25 years of marriage: Zach, Preston, Kyle, Olivia, and Ammon. Mike raised his children with love, patience, compassion, and faith, traits which he strongly instilled into each of them. Anytime he spoke of his family, his soft words of love were quickly accompanied with tears of joy. Being a husband and father were his ultimate purpose and his greatest joy.

Life in the Oveson family has always been, and will always be, filled with laughter, fun, adventure, and badly-timed jokes. His contagious laughter could fill any room. Despite his strong concern for his family's safety, he faithfully guided and followed his wife on countless adventures (literally) to the ends of the Earth. His diligent preparation for these adventures always provided his family with comfort and security in the face of the unknown; everyone knew we could always count on Dad, no matter what.

After his family, a few of his favorite things, in no particular order, are: Star Wars, movie soundtracks, delicious food, cutting-edge technology, Bluey, funny videos, videography, photography, science fiction, Porsches, hiking, camping, Mary's endless household projects, and a million other little passions. He was truly an encyclopedia of knowledge, brimming with fun facts and a wealth of wisdom. A jack of all trades, Mike could fix, build, and figure out practically anything. If Dad couldn't figure it out, no one could.

His love for Jesus Christ guided every choice throughout his life. He loved God and loved others fiercely. He truly embodied and lived by the scripture, "that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." His unending service to those around him will never be forgotten, uplifting the lives of countless people.

His devotion to the Lord led him to willingly and joyfully serve in many capacities within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From serving as the go-to "stake tech guy," to Bishop, to Scoutmaster, and everything in between, he earnestly served in any capacity. Regardless of his calling, he diligently ministered without judgement to all, ensuring that they felt loved, seen, lifted, and comforted.

Our family would like to express heartfelt gratitude for all of the love and support we have received from everyone. It truly is appreciated, and we know Mike wants to express his gratitude for the countless ways his family has been surrounded and lifted by all of you.

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary; his children Zachary (Emilee), Preston, Kyle, Olivia, and Ammon; his parents Kenneth and Janet; his siblings MarciAnn (Chad) Galvez, Michelle Reed, Amanda (DeVaughn) Simper, Melissa Oveson, and Matt Oveson; his in-laws Kathleen and Donald Wittke, Liz (Mike) Staten, Jon Horrocks, David (Sinda) Horrocks, Stephen (Melissa) Horrocks; and many very beloved nieces and nephews, who will forever love their "Uncle Mike." He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Keith Horrocks, brother-in-law Jim Reed, and other extended family members.

Services entrusted to Myers Ogden Mortuary. We will have a viewing and a celebration of Mike's life on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mount Lewis Stake Center (1150 N Monroe Blvd, Ogden, UT). There will be a brief viewing at the Harrisville Stake Center (1560 N 200 W, Harrisville, UT) on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Internment will follow the funeral service at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park (100 N Monroe Blvd, Ogden, UT).
