Oleta (Kinney) Oveson of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at 93 years old.
She was born on May 12, 1931, to Levi and Bernice Kinney in Newark Township, Gratiot County, Michigan.
Oleta was preceded by her parents; and her sisters Phyllis in 2022, Patricia in 2015 and her brother Wesley in 2002 She is survived by her sister, Charlene.
She was married to Raymond G. Smith and is survived by her children Linda (Bill) Heika, Nancy (Larry) Ping, Mark R. (Seokyung) Smith. She is survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She divorced Raymond in 1971 and remarried Ed Schuknecht in 1973, until his death in 1981.
Oleta was awarded both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees by Central Michigan University. She began her teaching career in a one-room school in Saginaw County, in 1951. She also taught in Ithaca, Michigan before moving to Traverse City, Michigan, where her career culminated in 1986, as a junior high counselor.
Following her retirement, she moved west to Las Vegas, Nevada to help take care of her mother there for 5 years. She and her mother then moved to Cedar City, Utah, where Oleta volunteered at a hospital and this is where she met and married her third husband, Levi Oveson. They moved back to Las Vegas & then decided to move to Mountain Home, Arkansas. They were married for eighteen years prior to Levi's death in 2012. After his death, she moved to Springfield, Missouri, until her death in 2025.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Midwest Cremation and Funeral Services in Springfield, MO.
