Colonel Sean Raymond Pirone, United States Army, passed away in
Alexandria, VA on December 26th, 2025, at the age of 54. A career officer, Sean attained the rank of Colonel with over 29 years of dedicated service, which included numerous deployments and operations. His distinguished awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal and the Master Parachutist Badge. Sean truly loved to be airborne and displayed bravery at every turn.
Sean was born on January 3, 1971, in
Trenton, New Jersey, to the late Raymond and Veronica Pirone. He was a proud graduate of Florida State University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Communications while serving in the Army Reserves in Pensacola, Florida. He also held a Master of Science in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School and was a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Sean was an avid athlete who demonstrated an incredible capacity for 'mind over matter' while participating in 5K, 10K, and half-marathons, including the Army Ten Miler, the Run for the Fallen, and Spartan races. When not competing, he found great joy in music, reading, and film, and was a fan of NHL hockey and both major and minor league baseball.
Sean is survived by his wife, Lara Pirone; his son, Aiden Nicholas Byrd; his sister, Kim Oda (Gary); and his best friend, Ken Christian. He is also survived by two nieces, seven grand nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Carmine and Veronica Josephine Pirone, and his sister, Colleen Marie Pirone.
A committal service with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery; details to be announced once finalized.
