Krivda, Thurman J., "TJ", (October 15, 1929 – August 31, 2025) age 95, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, Fern Creek, Kentucky, and
Mount Vernon, Ohio passed away Sunday August 31, 2025. Thurman was a 1947 graduate of Aquinas High School in Columbus, Ohio and also attended The College of Saint Mary's of the Springs to study business applications.
Thurman completed a military career in 1985 as Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) with a Warrant in the United States Army Signal Corps. TJ was an active member of the Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic church where he enjoyed his participation in the Church choir, setting up the sanctuary for Mass, and faithfully attended and supported its ministries. Thurman was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus (Danville, Ohio Assembly No. 2970) as well as a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Mount Vernon Council #847. TJ was an extremely accomplished marksman who activated during the Korean Conflict from a Pvt. E-2 status to teach soldiers basic pistol maintenance and marksmanship and quickly demonstrated military proficiency and received his NonCommissioned Officer E5 appointment within 1 year of instructional deployment. He was widely recognized as a Warrant Officer for his command of military regulations, protocol, military intelligence systems, and logistical expertise.
Thurman was married to Katherine (Boyd) Krivda and was preceded in death by two of his children, Stephen J. Krivda and Barbara (Krivda) Coppenbarger (spouse Jon Coppenbarger). He is survived by his wife (Kat) and his three remaining children, Karen (Krivda) Beyer (husband Michael), Timothy F. Krivda (wife Annette), and Vincent M. Krivda (wife Coty). Thurman had nine grandchildren that loved him dearly: Stacy Ellis, Vincent Krivda, Jr., Jessica (Beyer) Kitzmiller, Christina Krivda, Raquel 'Rocky' C.K. (Krivda) Harrigan, Jacob Beyer, Daniel Krivda, Jordan Krivda, and Thurman J.A. Krivda. TJ also will be deeply missed by his Great Grandchildren Alyssa Krick; Lucy, Penelope & Vincent Krivda III; Emmalyn, Harrison, and Jillian Kitsmiller; Reagan & McKinley Harrigan; and Evan & Oliver Beyer. TJ is also survived by his Great-Great Granddaughter, Aspen Krick.
Thurman has donated his body for medical research to the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ohio University, Athens Ohio 45701.
There is a calm reprieve that has settled over the waters of Ontario's Rice Lake and the riverine banks surrounding Knox County Ohio among the fish who once trembled at his name. Bottlenecks will always be at the top. TJ's final internment burial will be at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. bearing witness to Thurman's love and dedication to his country and American Freedom.
TJ's family will be receiving friends for visitation Friday, October 10th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel, 619 East High Street
Mount Vernon, Ohio. The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m.
A Memorial Mass, with full Military Honors will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 10:00 AM at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 303 E. High Street
Mt. Vernon, Ohio with Very Rev. Monsignor Mark J. Hammond, VF as the Celebrant.
