Sebastian 'Sebby' Joseph Lovasco Jr., 72, passed away suddenly in his home on January 8, 2025. Born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on June 27, 1952, he was a son of the late Sebastian 'Busty' Lovasco and Lois (Abrahamson) Lovasco.
Sebby attended St. Peter's High School. He enjoyed playing drums in the St. Ann's marching band and highlight of his time with them was playing at the Rose Bowl Parade in California. Sebby worked on the docks as a young man peeling shrimp for 10 cents a pound before his time working as a crew member on the family's fishing boat, "St. Jude", where he proved himself to be a full share deckhand very early on. After years of hard labor he eventually became captain. In 1988, after earning his 100 ton captain's license he transitioned to whale watching with 7 Seas Whale Watch, later becoming its co-owner. During the off-season he worked hard delivering oil and servicing oil burners at any time of night or day. Sebby was always there to help families stay warm.
Sebby approached every job with remarkable dedication and work ethic. While he found his purpose in his work, he also found great joy in spending time with family, close friends, and co-workers. Those closest to him know he wasn't always serious, and his laughter was contagious. While Sebby thought of himself as 'stoic', especially in his later years, you never knew when he was about to tell a very animated story, and if you listened carefully, you would learn something. Sebby will be missed by all, but will live on through the many that he taught.
Sebby is survived by his daughter Lindsay Mehrmanesh and her husband Jeff of Walpole, MA, his son Timothy Lovasco, and his wife Jennie of Rochester, NH, his son Sebastian Lovasco IV of Rockport, MA, his five grandchildren; Evelyn and Stella Mehrmanesh and Ava, Timothy Jr., and Josephine Lovasco; his brother Thomas Lovasco and his wife Lisa of Rowley, MA, his brother Richard Lovasco and his wife Mary Grace of Gloucester, MA, his brother Peter Lovasco of Essex, MA, his uncle Thomas Abrahamson, and his wife Helen of Billerica, MA, his aunt Josephine Lovasco and aunt Katherine Lovasco, both of Gloucester, MA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
Visiting hours will be held at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 5-7p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church, 60 Prospect Street, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
