Selena Diggins Obituary

Selena M. Diggins, age 50, passed away on June 21, 2025, at Taylor House Hospice after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa.

Selena was born on September 15, 1974, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Nancy Pilcher and Joe Wahlert. She was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Clifford Davis. A graduate of Hoover High School, Selena was known for her strong work ethic and held various positions throughout her career. She worked at Belden Jewelers, Bolton & Hay, Wells Fargo, Faegre Baker Daniels Law Firm, the State of Iowa, and most recently, Dentons Davis Brown Law Firm.

A devoted member of Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Selena generously volunteered her time and talents. She had a deep love for children and served as a Shepherd at Vacation Bible School, worked in the nursery, greeted at the doors, participated in Meals from the Heartland, and helped with event setup and cleanup. She was also active in the volunteer mission team and supported the Women’s Shelter in Des Moines.

Selena is survived by her husband of 29 years, Danny A. Diggins; children Sean (Sydney) Lathrop of Norwalk and Dakata Diggins (Richardo) of Ames; stepson Matt McDonald (Jesi) of Des Moines; her mother Nancy Pilcher of Des Moines; siblings Joe Jr., Brenda (Dennis) Brown, Angie Pilcher, and Mandy, all of Des Moines; and 14 beloved grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Wahlert; stepfather, Clifford Davis; and grandparents Beryl, Doris, and Mary.

Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Church of Hope Missions or Vacation Bible School programs.
