Selena Sharpe

Selena Pope Sharpe, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home early Wednesday morning, October 29, 2025, surrounded by her family and caregivers. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, L. Howard Sharpe.
She was born January 5, 1941 in Glenwood, Georgia to Lucille (Atchison) and Martin Pope. Selena was a 1959 graduate of Glenwood High School and worked with Southern Bell in Savannah before making Lyons her home with husband Howard. She retired from the Toombs County School System where she worked as a teacher's aide, elementary school secretary, and administrative assistant. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and served her community through this affiliation and as a member for Lyons First Baptist Church.
Selena loved going to the beach and spending time with The Coffee Girls. She enjoyed reading cookbooks, doting on her grandchildren, and Gunsmoke reruns.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, L. Howard Sharpe, her sister Martina (Dickson) and her brother Jimmy Pope. Selena is survived by her children Lawrence "Larry" Howard Sharpe, Jr and wife Sheri (Stacy) of Weatherford, Texas, and Leigh Sharpe Coffield and husband John of Grayson, Georgia; three grandchildren, Major Casey Sharpe, USAF and wife Major Vienete, USAF, of Omaha, Nebraska, Eric Sharpe and wife Katie (Flachsbart) of Fort Worth, Texas, and Katherine Coffield of Dalton, Georgia. She has three great-grandchildren with a fourth on the way. Selena is survived by her sister Linda Pope Quick of Vidalia, Georgia, her sister in law Elaine Pope of Glenwood, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held by the family at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Wilkes Funeral Home of Vidalia is in charge of the arrangements.
