Selma was born to her Russian immigrant parents in 1933. She was the
baby of the family, referred to lovingly as The Kleine. She and her sister,
Stella who was 6 yrs older than her, grew up on Anchor St in Philadelphia.
Selma and her family, including her Bubbie from the old country, lived above
their small grocery store. Both English and Yiddish were spoken fluently in
their home.
A 1953 graduate of Olney High School, Selma was a music lover and
learned to play the piano at a young age. She worked as an usher in her
late teens and early twenties at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.
Selma met Stanley, the man she would marry in 1954, through her best
friend Rhoda, Stan's sister. They moved to the idyllic town of Levittown, PA
where they raised their two children, Anita and Arthur. They were long
time members of Temple Shalom where Selma served as sisterhood
president. She also served as president of her local chapter of Women's
American ORT. In Levittown they enjoyed a life filled with countless friends
and close family, regular mahjong games and fun times at Dorilyn Terrace.
After retirement, Selma and Stan moved to South Jersey and continued a
blessed life together filled with friends, family, travel and their new beloved
synagogue home, M'kor Shalom. It was there that Selma found an
incredible village of friends who kept her lifted and engaged, most
especially following Stan's passing, 14 yrs ago.
Selma lived the last three years under the care of the amazing staff at
Brookdale Evesham. She made good friends there and flourished through
the final years of her life.
