Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hall Funeral Homes & Cremation Services - Boothbay on Aug. 5, 2025.
Sereno Tasker Brown Jr., 76, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on August 1,
2025. He was husband to his loving wife Cyndie (Perkins) Brown of Boothbay, sharing
nearly 53 years of marriage. Born on July 11, 1949 in Boothbay Harbor, the son of
Sereno Tasker Sr. and Frances (Harris) Brown. He attended local schools and
graduated from Boothbay Region High School in 1968.
Sereno and Cyndie built their home and raised their family on Barter's Island. He
held many jobs in the region, working as a carpenter, an electrician, then boat builder at
a local shipyard before eventually taking a job at Bath Iron Works where he worked for
over 30 years until his retirement. He maintained close ties with many people he worked
with until the day before he passed.
A consummate storyteller and listener, he was often renowned for his gifts in
communication and empathy. These gifts were honed and refined as he took a leading
role in the youth ministry early in his life. He loved music and, in his youth as a
musician, he played in a local rock and roll band and later in gospel groups. He found
great joy in participating in his son's sports journeys and was very active in local youth
athletics coaching baseball and football. It would be difficult to count the number of
lives he influenced in those roles, but he was a fixture in the athletic community long
after both sons had left the school system.
He routinely "volunteered" Cyndie for her
assistance on the sidelines alongside him. Little gave him greater joy than being a
grandfather. He took great interest in all their endeavors, little or big. Once "his" girls
(Madeleine and Emma), became active in athletics in California, he loved to follow their
blossoming careers, and carefully watched nearly every game online, cheering loudly,
and telling all of their accomplishments.
Devout Christians, Sereno and Cyndie led youth ministry groups at the Boothbay
Baptist Church, and in 2006 helped found the Boothbay Region Christian Fellowship
under the leadership of Al Roberts. Loving gospel music, he used his talent as a
guitarist in the music ministry of the Fellowship. Along with music, Sereno's passion
was to communicate how a relationship with Christ could change one's life as it had his
many years ago. Even in compromised health, he faithfully attended every Sunday
evening - listening, sharing stories, and always encouraging those around him.
Sereno was widely known as a lover of laughter – often ready with a quick quip
or phrase. Whether it be at the dinner table (a favorite venue of his to socialize at), at
work, or truthfully anywhere with anyone at nearly any time, Sereno had a knack for
jokes and humor. His ability to make others laugh was both disarming and endearing. If
you had the pleasure of knowing him, you likely shared smiles and belly laughs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Sereno Robert, and his wife Abbigail
(Bishop) Brown of Oakland, CA. and Matthew Henry and partner Chelsea of Portland.
Grandchildren, Madeleine and Emma Brown of Oakland, CA. Sister, Rebekah Darden of
Oregon, Sister-in-law, Susan Begin (with husband Ray), of Auburn, Brother-in-law
Russell Perkins, (with wife Andrea), of Wiscasset. He also leaves behind many loved
nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by sisters
Frances Bredeau and Eldora Bredeau.
A celebration of Sereno's life will be held at 1 p.m. on August 30th at the Charles E
Sherman American Legion Post #36 Hall in Boothbay. In lieu of flowers, a charitable fund
is being established to support individuals in the region with a demonstrable living need
and is placed under the guidance of Boothbay Region Christian Fellowship in Sereno's
name. Donations can be made payable to the fellowship, with memo line "Sereno's
Fund", and sent to PO Box 94,
Boothbay, ME 04537.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay.
