Shane E. Barendregt, age 52, of Fairmont City, Illinois, born December 11, 1972, to the late Roel and Kathy (Dietz) Barendregt passed away on April 22, 2025.
Shane was a journeyman iron worker before he started his 19-year career with the railroad. Seventeen of those years were with CSX at the Rose Lake Yard. He was one of a kind, to say the least. He loved the outdoors and loved his float trips where he would feel close to his inner Jesse James. He liked to deer hunt and go werewolf hunting with the kids. We can’t forget about his idol, Ric Flaire!
He is survived by his wife, Andrea Serwatka, and their daughter, Libby Barendregt of Fairmont City, IL; a son, Dustin Barendregt of Fairmont City, IL; a daughter, Laura Tieman of Branson, MO; son, Jesse (Sam) Wright of Branson, MO; seven grandkids, Landon, Lydia, Carter, Kaydence, Malia, Paisley, and Blakey; a brother, Roelie (Nicole) Barendregt of Collinsville, IL; a sister, Ginny Woolf of Highland, IL; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, beginning at 1:00pm at Koke’s Restaurant in Fairmont City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Libby Barendregt’s college fund and may be given that day at Koke’s. Share your condolences and memories at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
