A year on...I was thinking of Shane just a few days ago. He will always be closely remembered among the best memories of my 22 years as a Saturday Market member. I remember our talks, his talent and generous heart, kind eyes, that beret, and always gentlemanly comportment. A rare treasure. He made my life better just because he was...

I bought two of his prints at the Saturday market as a college freshman. Still have them both hanging up in my apartment. Rest in peace!

I had the pleasure of meeting Shane at the Western Washington State Fair in 1990. I was fascinated by his work. I said hello and asked if he could do a drawing of some Dolphins. He said yes. I came back 2 hours later and was in Shock To See This Beautiful Art Work. And he had signed it for me. WOW.. I was very sad to see he had passed away. I know one thing for sure he was a very extremely talented man. Sending my prayers to his family and friends.

I lived in Eugene for my college years and some years following, and I used to sell my jewelry at the Saturday Market. Shane was one of the vendors I will always remember. I bought several pieces of art from him that still hang on my walls today. He was such a friendly spirit and so genuine. We always had engaging conversations when I went by his booth, you could tell he was intelligent and interested in the world around him. I just searched him up online today wondering why I hadn't seen him at market in such a long time, and was so sad to hear the news of his passing. Rest in peace, my friend. Sending my deepest condolences to his wife and family.

I grew up surrounded by Mr. Slayer's art. It's still on my walls today. My parents took me to see him at the Puyallup Fair a fair number of times. His art will always be a part of history and I hope his memory will live on thru it for years to come. Condolences to his family and close friends, and to all of the people who's lives were touched by this wonderful person who brought so much beauty into our lives. If not for the shere number of them I would add photos of his works my family has collected. Blessings be with you Mr. Slayer

Oh goodness! I bought this picture from him in 1983 for my mother who collected it elephants. It was one of her favorite pictures and I kept it when she passed away in 2019. I remember buying it at the indoor swap meet for $8 when I was about 10 years old. Rest in love Shane!

I bought the Dragon Flight way back in 1989. I loved stopping by his booth every Saturday (as a fellow vendor). I've moved away recently (2021) and was looking to make contact to purchase a few of his postcards of wisdom. Sad news.

Shane was one of my very good friends in Junior High and High School in Albany. That was many years ago, but one vivid memory I have is that we would sometimes go to movies at the Venetian Theater on Saturdays and he always wanted to sit in the front row.
So sorry to hear of his passing.

I just was looking at a piece of his artwork I have on my book shelf, and was looking on the internet to see what he is up to. I am so sad to find out about his passing. My heart goes out to his wife, family and friends as he was one of a kind! He will be missed.

My Saturday mornings at the Eugene Market, over many years, had a special sparkle because of Shane. We often encountered each other on the corner ar Oak and Park in the cool mornings. He was wearing his beret at just the right angle, and his face lit up with each conversation shared, with me and every single person.
He and I often spoke French together, a shared interest for two lifelong students of humanity and culture with a deep quest for understanding. We'd laught at the stumbles and corrections...connections. I loved those times when we talked together, words shared, creating a wide-ranging map of interests and curiousities.
Shane looked right at you when sharing conversation, together with a kind smile or indications of compassionate understanding. To me, a true Prince Among Men. I will always hold his memory close in my heart.
And to his belovéd family...that you brought him to light, that he chose you to share his life's path, that you have been loved by an extraordinary, humble, beautiful soul in this man named Shane...is a deeply precious gift. Let that love sustain you always.

Shane was a philosopher as well as an artist, poet and everyone's friend. He seemed always curious, sincerely interested in the development of humanity, our history and our future. I knew him from Saturday Market where I sold potted plants and my Zen writings. He was a true intellect, and a student of life. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife and all his family. What a good man.

Shane was my booth neighbor last year and I got to know him pretty well through our chats while setting up and breaking down each week. We would end each Saturday by swapping an interesting story and he sure did have a lot of good ones! He was such a great listener and always made me feel appreciated. I had the privilege of watching him treat each person that came to his booth the same way. I will miss him a lot and am grateful for the time I got to spend around him. Sending lots of love to his wife and beloved dog, Judy.

Shayne was fellow co-toastmaster and we also had weekly French lessons together, on the heels of our public speaking meeting. He was the epitome of a life-long learner. He was serious about his undertakings. I feel grieved about his passing and present my sincere condolences to Denise.

Bernie and I have known Shane over 25 years. He greeted us in the same kind and caring manner that he greeted everyone he knew. I have a picture he made, as many of his friends and clients do.
