Shane Jesse Witkowski

Shane Jesse Witkowski, age 69, of Medford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 17, 2026. Born on August 10, 1956, in New York, NY. He carried himself with an air of intelligence, friendliness, and a sense of humor despite a life of struggle and mental illness. He leaves behind siblings Lynne Sweet and Bruce Sweet, son Jesse and loving cousins Mary Jones and Sarah Andre John.Born Susan Martha Sweet and struggling with gender dysphoria, Susan took the courageous step to become Shane in his later years. Shane celebrated 40 years of sobriety, an achievement that spoke volumes of his determination and willpower. In Shane's earlier years, he helped others through counseling. These personal triumphs were a source of inspiration to many people who had the privilege of knowing him. Shane had a passion for music and movies and could quote every line from the Big Lebowski. The family extends its gratitude to Medford Housing Authority and Mystic Valley YMCA for keeping Shane safely housed and fed.
