Shannon Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory - Rockdale Chapel on Oct. 2, 2025.
Shannon Marie Bivins Young, beloved mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, was born in Mobile, Alabama, on December 23, 1981, and transitioned from this life on September 23, 2025, in Covington, Georgia. She accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age by her late grandfather, Pastor John Lee Bivins, Sr., at Old Ship of Zion Baptist Church. Shannon was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Pastor John and Bettye Bivins, Sr., and her paternal grandparents, William and Ethel Mae Page, Sr. Shannon graduated with honors in 2000 from Lithonia High School, where she played on the junior varsity basketball team and was active in several student organizations. She attended Georgia Southern University-Armstrong Campus and Kennesaw State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in language arts and mathematics. Shannon also obtained a Master's Degree in Education from Walden University. In 2011, Shannon embarked on her professional teaching career at Liberty Middle School in Covington, Georgia. For Shannon, teaching was not just a profession, it was her "calling". She took seriously her role as a teacher and mentor to the students that God entrusted to her, and she often went the extra mile to aid her students in achieving success. She encouraged her students to reach their full potential and helped to equip them with the skills necessary to succeed in high school and beyond. During her over fourteen years at Liberty Middle School, Shannon served in a variety of roles outside of the classroom, including as cheerleader coach, as the sponsor for the math competitive team, as the coordinator for the gifted students' program, and as a team lead. She was proud to be a part of the Liberty Middle School family and was grateful for the relationships she forged with her students, their parents and her colleagues. Additionally, Shannon spent several summers working with Emory University's Summer Institute for the Gifted. There too she had a lasting and positive impact on the students that she taught and mentored Shannon loved cooking, traveling, and spending time with her friends and close-knit family, including her daughter, Queen, whom she adored and considered an extension of herself. She was very proud of the beautiful young lady that Queen has grown into, and up until Shannon's passing, she was teaching and pouring into Queen and encouraging her to discover and walk in God's purpose for her life. Shannon thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Whether it was movie watching with Queen, cheering on her two nephews, Ayden and Hassan Jr., at their sporting events, or planning the next family vacation, reunion, or movie night, Shannon enjoyed all things family, and she took full advantage of opportunities to spend quality time with her loved ones. To those who knew Shannon best, she was the embodiment of loyalty, love, and laughter. Her light will forever shine in the hearts of all who loved her. In addition to her daughter, Queen Bivins, and her nephews, Ayden White and Hassan Adan, Jr., Shannon leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving parents, Valerie and William Page; siblings, Anna Bivins-Adan (Hassan Sr.), Ashleigh White, Chris Moultrie (Jasmine), and Christine Walker; aunts and uncle, Sonja Bivins (Donald English), Tracy Bivins (Sharon), Ashley Williams (Robert), Laura Page, Gwendolyn Ross, and Juanita Rice; nieces and nephews, Leayzjah Walker, Leandre Walker, Christian Moultrie, and Maliah Moultrie; special friends/relatives, Courtney Agee and Triveta Boyd; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ms. Young was my favorite math teacher while I was in middle school. I had her while I was in 6th grade and then she became my math teacher again in 7th grade. She was an amazing teacher that I loved dearly and I miss her terribly. It was extremely sad to hear of her passing and I can only wish the best for her family. R.I.P Ms. Young!

I had ms young back in 2017 as my 6th grade math teacher. She was always willing to help us understand and master all the concepts we learned and was one of my more memorable teachers I had during my time at Liberty. she will be missed

Ms. Young taught both of my children. With each of them, she was always supportive. She always saw the good in students no matter what. To say she was different would be an understatement. I love how she always had a smile on her face when I would see her. Thank God we had a pleasure of having her in our lives.
