Shanta "Shay" Jeanne Cox, 52, of Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, after an extraordinary 16-year battle with brain cancer. She was born on June 12, 1973, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and grew up in Denham Springs, Louisiana.
Shay spent her life between Spotylvania and Winchester, Virginia, where she made her home surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her father, Doyle Cox; her mother, Deborah Scardina; her grandparents, Emory and Mardel Cox; and her beloved dog, Lucky.
Left to cherish her memory are her partner, David Wingerson; her daughters, Elizabeth Lewis and her husband Jesse Lewis, and Madison Dixon and her fiancé Jayden Sommerfield; her siblings, Julie Ann Cox, Kylan Cox, Joshua Cox, and Ashley Cox; and her adored grandchildren, Jake, Jesse Jr., McKinley, Scarlett, Kyler, and Trenton Lewis. She is also survived by many other family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
Shay was known for her outgoing spirit, her outspoken personality, and her heart that never hesitated to help others. She loved reading, playing World of Warcraft, and making bows. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her daughters and grandchildren, whom she loved with every piece of herself.
Services to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at 12 Oaks of Livingston Church, 27952 Red Oak Rd, Livingston, LA 70754.
