Sharon Abner Obituary
She was the daughter of Marie (Ramsey) Abner and Wilbur Abner, and was born Feb 5, 1949, in New Castle, IN. They moved to Knightstown, Indiana in 1951.
She received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from The College of Wooster and a Master's Degree in organ performance, sacred music, from Union Theological School of Sacred Music.
She was passionate about sacred music and held several positions of organist and choir director in churches and synagogues, including the Organist and Choirmaster, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Kent, CT; Minister of Music, St. John's Episcopal Church, New Milford, CT; Organist, Keyboardist, Temple Beth Abraham, 1984 - 2014 · 30 yrs. Tarrytown, NY; St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Mamaroneck, NY; First Congregational Church, Washington, CT.
She had a stroke in 2014, which left her unable to play, but she remained passionate about and involved with music.
She moved to the Kansas City area to be close to her sister and sang in the choir at St Paul's Episcopal Church.
Sharon is preceded in death by her father and her mother.
She is survived by her sister, Marita Abner, and Marita's husband, Michael Schuetz and by cousins on her mother's side.
Her remains will be interred next to her parents at Glen Cove cemetery, Knightstown, Indiana.
A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 11 East 40th St., Kansas City, Missouri, 64111 on Thursday, February 29th, 2024, at 10:30 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Paul's is suggested.

In addition to being a great organist, Sherry enjoyed beating her competitors at scrabble. I enjoyed accompanying Sherry and her sister Marita on bird watching outings. Sherry had an eagle eye and good ear for spotting birds.
