Sharon (Altepeter) Dwenger, age 84, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on August 10, 2025, in Oxford, Indiana. Born on August 9, 1941, in Lafayette, Indiana, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and quiet strength.
Sharon was the daughter of Cecelia and John Altepeter and grew up in Fowler, Indiana, graduating from Fowler High School. She carried with her the values instilled during her early years—humility, kindness, and devotion—which would shape the rest of her life.
A woman of deep Catholic faith, Sharon was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Her spirituality was a guiding light throughout her life and a source of comfort to those around her. Known for her gentle demeanor and ever-present smile, she brought warmth and calm to every room she entered.
On April 11, 1964, Sharon married the love of her life, John. Together they shared 61 cherished years and built a family that brought them great pride and joy in a loving home filled with laughter and care. She was a devoted mother to their children: Janet (Chris), Carol (Michael), and Tricia (David). Though she experienced the profound loss of two sons—John and Jim—her strength never wavered.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Chris (Tiffany), Holly (Keenan), Blane (Sydney), Mikayla, Emily, and Christina. Each carries forward pieces of Sharon’s love and quiet wisdom.
Sharon found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had a passion for gardening and for flowers, nurturing beauty wherever she could. Her hands were rarely idle—whether crocheting blankets for her grandkids or casting a line while fishing—she embraced each hobby with patience and grace. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals—cooking was one of her favorite ways to express love.
She will be remembered not only for what she did but for how she lived—with serenity, devotion, and an enduring smile that touched all who knew her. Her quiet presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on August 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, located at 504 S Michigan St in Oxford, Indiana. Rosary will occur after the visitation, with a funeral mass starting at 11:00 AM also at St. Patrick’s. Burial will immediately follow the mass at St. Patrick’s Cemetery adjacent to the church.
May Sharon’s memory bring peace to those who loved her and continue to inspire quiet strength in the lives she touched.
