Misie Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tippecanoe Funeral & Cremation Services on Mar. 19, 2026.
Misie Lucky Smith (Tapp), 61, passed away on March 17, 2026. She was born on December 1, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Ivy Louise Girton (Phelps) and Ronald Tapp.

Misie was a deeply spiritual woman whose faith guided her throughout her life. A devoted Catholic, she found great comfort and strength in reading her Bible, and her faith remained one of the most important aspects of who she was.

She dedicated her life to caring for others in many ways. Misie worked as the Head of Glass Transportation in Lafayette, Indiana, served as an in-home caregiver, drove a school bus, and proudly owned and operated her own business, Misie's Cleaning Company. No matter the role, her compassion and willingness to help others always shined through.

Misie also valued education and earned her associate's degree from a community college in Mesa, Arizona-an accomplishment she was proud of.

Above all, Misie loved her family. She is survived by her daughters, Brittani Dunning (Hope Dunning) of Oxford, Indiana, and Brooke Dunning of St. Louis, Missouri; her cherished granddaughter, Evelyn; her companion, Kim Smith; and her beloved dogs, Abby and Dixie, who she loved like her own children. She is also survived by her siblings: Rudy Tapp, James Tapp, Ron Tapp (Tammy), Candy Fulkerson, Stacey Kendall, and Kim Matteson.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ivy Louise Girton (Phelps); father, Ronald Tapp; her stepmother, Debbie Tapp; her stepson, Josh Dunning; brother, John Tapp; her special friend, Marilou Smith; and her beloved dogs, Reese and Max.

Misie will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, and the selfless way she cared for everyone around her. Her love and compassion will live on in all who knew her.

Service will be at St. Boniface Catholic Church (318 N 9th St Rd, Lafayette, IN 47904)
