Sharon Gerald Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnie P. Bragg Funeral Home, Inc. - Paterson on Mar. 12, 2023.
Sharon (Leverett) Gerald was born on October 4, 1954, in Passaic, NJ, to the late Jessie and Etta Mae (Johnson) Leverett. She was the fourth of five children, and the only daughter from this union. When Sharon was young, she was always happy and a joy to be around.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized, and she became a member of Calvary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Joseph Robinson.
Sharon was educated in the Passaic Public School System. She graduated from Passaic High School in 1972. During that same year, Sharon also competed in the first Miss Black Passaic Pageant, in which she was crowned the first runner-up. After graduating high school, Sharon attended William Paterson College, where she received her bachelor's degree in early childhood. Sharon started her career with the Passaic Board of Education, and she was instrumental in developing the Pre-
K Program. She taught Pre-K through 3rd grade. She loved being a teacher and making lasting impressions on the young minds of her students. She later became a Master Teacher, and she was able to guide and train other teachers.
Sharon and Keath Sr., affectionately known as Ricky, were classmates. When they met in junior high, Sharon knew that one day, Ricky was going to be her husband. They joined in holy matrimony on July 15, 1978, and life began. From this union, they had three children; two daughters and one son. After relocating and becoming a resident of Plainfield NJ, Sharon became a member of North Stelton AME Church, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Kenneth L. Saunders Sr. Sharon worked side by side with Reverend Pamela Tucker, organizing events for the youth of North Stelton AME Church, such as the love feast and other holiday celebrations.
During her retirement, Sharon began her venture into building her family business, Beyond Belief Creations. She found great joy in providing beautiful personalized creations to her beloved friends, family, and customers. Sharon was the "CEO" and the only "24-hour worker" for her family business. She dedicated limitless hours to perfecting her craft by watching YouTube videos, attending workshops, and taking classes.
Sharon had many hobbies and interests, she enjoyed relaxing in her backyard, swimming in her pool, and hosting, while being surrounded by her family and friends. Sharon was a kind, caring, and a cheerful giver, one who always puts the needs of others before hers. She was a woman of strong faith, and she instilled in her children the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. Sharon was a source of inspiration to everyone whose lives she touched.
Before transitioning from this earthly world, Sharon became an Eastern Star on December 22, 2022. She embodied what it was to be a star. She truly shined bright through her actions. She showed self-sacrifice, integrity, loyalty, and characteristics of a good friend, and she upheld her purity, had significant faith, showed love, and was always hospitable.
On February 21, 2023, Sharon transitioned from this earthly life to eternity, surrounded by her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jessie and Etta Mae Leverett, her brother, Gregory Leverett, brother-in-law, William Gerald, and sister-in-law, Josie Gerald.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: Her devoted husband, Keath Gerald, Sr., two daughters and one son, Kalin Gerald, Ciera Mayfield, and Keath Gerald Jr, three grandchildren, Bria, Alaya, and Wayland Jr., whom she told daily that she loved them "forever and a day." Also, her three brothers: Larry (Deborah), Donald(Evelyn), and Terrance (Mildred). One sister-in-law, Laura Wilson, one brother-in-law, Sherwood Gerald, and a host of nieces, nephews, sister-cousins, cousins, and friends. Sharon will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
