James Ronald Bennett

James R. Bennett, affectionately known as JB, passed away on February 4, 2026. He was 79.

JB grew up in Passaic as the only child of Jack and Lillian Bennett. After graduating from Passaic High School, he spent time in Florida where he met his wife, Dottie. Together, they returned to NJ, eventually settling in Pequannock where he owned and operated J.B. Painting Company alongside his wife. He was a loyal Pequannock resident for over 45 years. His life was centered on community, family, and friends, as evidenced by the countless lives and hearts he touched with his own stubborn heart of gold - none more so than his daughter, who was shaped by having his love always in her life and is now able to pass it on to her family and JB's grandson(s) in kind.

JB was an avid golfer and a proud member of UNICO, through which he served his community with generosity and commitment. Earlier in life he enjoyed staying active, playing softball, racing cars, and having good conversations over scotch (with lots of ice). More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family and friends. His greatest joy came from playing and laughing with his adored grandson, Lucien. He was equally joyful about welcoming his second grandson soon.

JB is lovingly survived by his daughter, Lori Recker and her husband Valentin; and his grandson, Lucien. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Dottie; and his cousins, Bob DeGeorge (and his wife Barbara) and Richard DeGeorge.

Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, February 9 at Scanlan's. A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 10 at Scanlan's. Entombment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
