Daniel James Edwards

Doctor Daniel James Edwards, 66, passed away on February 1, 2026.

Daniel was born in Brooklyn, NY where he lived until age 10 when he and his family moved to Wayne, NJ. He spent most of his adult life in Riverdale, NJ.

Dan's life reflected a rare willingness to follow his calling wherever it led. After graduating from Seton Hall University with a degree in Finance, he began his career on Wall Street. Yet his true passion was helping others, and that calling ultimately drew him to medicine. Dan returned to school at Nova Southeastern University and became an emergency medicine physician, a role in which he poured his heart and soul into for 12 years. Later he continued his work in urgent care, and most recently, he was practicing as an addiction medicine specialist and medical director at Affinity Healthcare Group. He spent the better part of his life helping people. Dr. Edwards was known for his steady presence, kind spirit, and unwavering compassion, caring for people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. His patients and colleagues alike felt his genuine humanity every day.

Outside of medicine, Daniel embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He loved nature and history documentaries, spirited (but always respectful) debates, cooking on the grill all year round, reading, and watching concerts. He was committed to cheering on the New York Giants as a longtime season ticket holder, as well as the Mets, and his alma mater, the Seton Hall Pirates.

Above all else, Daniel cherished his family. He loved to travel with them, taking them on tropical island vacations, and even touring Italy and reuniting with his relatives in Bari. He was married to the love of his life, Audrey, for 27 years, and his greatest pride was being a devoted father supporting his daughters, Amanda and Kristen, in their every endeavor. Everything he did was driven by his desire to love, protect, and provide for his family.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Audrey; his daughters, Amanda and Kristen; his brother, Michael, and his wife, Toni-Ann; his brothers-in-law, Steven Miksits and his wife, Barbara, John Miksits, and David Miksits and his wife, Marivic; and his nieces, Alyson, Katelyn, Carolyne, Rachel, and nephew, Joshua. He was predeceased by his parents, Grace (nee Ambrosi) and Harry "Jim" Edwards.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pompton Plains, NJ. Interment will follow the Mass at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
