Robert James Maass

Robert J. Maass, of Pompton Plains, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026 at the age of 88. He was born in Hamburg, Germany to Edgar and Mae (Brown) Maass. He was raised in Lincoln Park and attended Boonton High School until joining the Army, which happened to take him back to Germany, where he served from 1960-1962. Upon returning to the United States, Bob worked Aircraft Radio for almost 10 years. For the next twenty years, Bob worked for T&W Ice Cream in Ridgewood, NJ, as an Ice Cream Distributor.

Bob was very active and had many passions. He was an avid fisherman and looked forward to the first day of trout season when he would "fish the Flat Brook". He spent late spring and all summer gardening and tending to his well-manicured property. Bob was also an avid hunter and enjoyed many trips hunting with close friends in Ohio. He loved to read and was always found in his chair perusing anything from Field and Stream to books on war.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, his brother Edgar, and his beloved wife Maryann (Jones).

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a visitation at Christ Church, Episcopal in Pompton Lakes, on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 1 pm, followed by a memorial service and interment at the Christ Church Memorial Garden.
