Sharon Lea (Moyer) Helmuth, 83, of Goshen, died on Dec. 12, 2025, after a long life of service to her family, church and community.
She was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Hudson, Michigan, to Harold D. and Ruth I. (Baughman) Moyer, and graduated from Hudson High School in 1960. She completed her nursing education at Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne in 1963. After four years at Lutheran Hospital, she worked nights as a registered nurse at Goshen Hospital for the next 40 years, primarily in pediatric and family care.
On Nov. 20, 1965, she married Mervin Ray Helmuth in Leo, Indiana. She was a longtime member of North Goshen Mennonite Church, where she served as church historian and librarian.
She is survived by her husband, Mervin Helmuth of Goshen; two sons, Timothy P. Helmuth and Todd C. (Becky Whitmer) Helmuth, both of Goshen; daughter-in-law Jo A. Stauffer; five grandchildren, Getty L. (Stephanie Flores) Helmuth, Micah A. (Melanie Hertler) Helmuth, Joshua A. (Erika Byler) Helmuth, all of Goshen, Jordan E. (Zac Allen) Helmuth of New Paris, Indiana, and Zeffer P. "Emma" Helmuth of Mesa, Arizona; two great-granddaughters, Anabel and Viviana Helmuth; and a niece, Lori Layman of Webster City, Iowa, and a nephew, Mark Hitzeman of Oak Harbor, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carol Jean (Moyer) Hitzemann.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. at North Goshen Mennonite Church, 501 N. 8th St., Goshen, with Becky Helmuth and Izaete Nafziger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to North Goshen Mennonite Church.
