Sharon Johns Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Apr. 29, 2025.
After a long and fruitful life, Sharon Ruth (Andersen) Johns of Highland, Utah passed away on April 27, 2025 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Sharon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 10, 1945 to Lawrence and Maxine (Johnson) Andersen. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to San Gabriel, California where she lived until she was graduated from San Gabriel High in 1963. That same fall, she enrolled at Brigham Young University where, among other things, she participated as a Cougarette.
On September 9, 1965, Sharon married her eternal sweetheart and best friend, Robert Michael (Bob) Johns in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Together they had 8 children. Additionally, their daughter, Katharine Marie, was delivered stillborn in December 1981. Sharon was a devoted mother and homemaker. She made her children a priority in her life. She was always there to support them in their school, extracurricular, and Church activities and her love for her children was always evident. After pausing her education to raise her family, Sharon returned to BYU and received her degree in 2007.
Sharon was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was central in her life. She had a deep love for our Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ. She was a wonderful example of Christlike living and service. Truly, she was one who, as King Benjamin taught, had "yield[ed] to the enticings of the Holy Spirit" and had "becometh a saint through the Atonement of Christ the Lord." (Mosiah 3:19)
Among her numerous callings, she faithfully served as a visiting teacher and ministering sister. She also served in ward and stake Primary presidencies, ward and stake Relief Society presidencies, and as ward Young Women's President several times. Additionally, she served as a branch missionary in the Toxey, Alabama branch, MLS missionary in the Highland Utah Stake, Sister Training Leader in both the Utah Provo and Orem missions, 4 years as a branch missionary in the Missionary Training Center in Provo, and as Full-time missionary companion in the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo East Mission while her husband served as President. She was also service minded in the community serving as PTA President at Oakdale Elementary, Union Middle and Hillcrest High School, as well as serving as Chairperson of the Community Council at Oakdale and Union.
Sharon enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and morning walker with her friends. She was a talented oil painter and created many beautiful canvas paintings. She loved supporting her BYU Cougars.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Joshua Bischoff.
She is survived by her husband, Bob, her 8 children and their spouses [Jennifer (Vard) Bischoff, Susan (Scott) Florence, Robert Jr. (Kristin) Johns, Stephen (Jennifer) Johns, Sherry (Brandon) Brooks, Kimberly (Mark) Walker, Julie (Jason) Mandelaris, and Jamie (Adam) Wright], her 29 living grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; with 3 additional soon-to-be born. She is also survived by her older brother, Hal (Carolyn) Andersen.
The family would like to thank all the medical professionals who provided service to Sharon throughout this journey. We would like to give special thanks to Amber, Courtney, and Sam for their loving care (Dignity Hospice).
Services are under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Highland 25th Ward Chapel; 5848 West 11000 North, Highland, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing before the service at the church from 9:00 - 10:30 AM. The interment will be in the Highland City Cemetery.

We have so many wonderful memories and so much love for Sharon and the entire Johns Family. Unfortunately, we have not seen Bob, Sharon or any of the family since they moved out of our neighborhood and ward several years ago. We are, of course, aware that the whole family suffered while Sharon struggled for so long. We join with others who are happy she is no longer suffering. We wish we could join family members tomorrow in Highland, but because of prior conflicts, we will be listening to the service online. We hope to meet up with Bob or others and renew our friendship soon.
