Sharon Mayes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Uht Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Mar. 23, 2024.
Sharon Ann Mayes, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024, at the age of 84, at Angela Hospice in Livonia, Michigan. Born on April 22, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Norman and Anna Spaller, Sharon was a lifelong resident of the state she loved so dearly.
Sharon's life was one rich with love and dedication, particularly to her family. She was the beloved wife of Willie Mayes, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage since their wedding on October 5, 1968. Together, they created a legacy of love and commitment that was evident to all who knew them. Sharon was a nurturing mother to her children, Debbie (Neil) Schroeder and Steve (Dena) Mayes. Her brother, Charlie Spaller, also held a special place in her heart.
Her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother was one Sharon cherished deeply. She doted on her grandchildren, Joe (Vanessa) Schroeder, Nick (Chelsey) Schroeder, Griffen (Erin) Mayes, and Jensen Mayes. Her great-grandchildren, Kadyn, Everly, Kennedy, Hannah, and Elizabeth, brought her immeasurable joy and were the recipients of her endless love and affection.
Sharon's commitment to her community was evident through her long-standing position as a secretary at Thunder Line Corp., where she worked diligently for 32 years. Following her retirement, she continued to serve others as a lunch aide at St. Alfred and Sacred Heart Catholic Schools. Her dedication to these roles reflected her caring nature and her desire to contribute positively to the lives of those around her.
A graduate of Redford High School, Sharon valued education and the doors it could open. She carried this belief throughout her life, encouraging and supporting her family's educational endeavors.
Sharon's interests were as nurturing as her personality. She found solace and pleasure in gardening, where she cultivated not just plants but also beauty and tranquility for her family and friends to enjoy. Her hands were rarely still, as she often engaged in crocheting, creating warm and intricate pieces that were both practical and heartfelt gifts. A voracious reader, she also enjoyed delving into different worlds through the pages of her books. Sharon had a fondness for word searches, a pastime that reflected her sharp mind and love for puzzles.
Christmas was a time of particular delight for Sharon. She reveled in the joy and warmth of the season, making it a special time for her family with her festive spirit and loving preparations. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always remember the magic she brought to their holiday celebrations.
Above all, the word that best describes Sharon Ann Mayes is "loving." Her life was a testament to the power of love, and the warmth she extended to everyone she met will be deeply missed. Sharon's legacy will live on through the cherished memories she created with her family, the lives she touched with her kindness, and the love she spread throughout her community. Her spirit will continue to be a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her.
