Sharon Roberta McDorman, born on November 6, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She is lovingly remembered for her generous spirit, her dedication to her family, and her passion for life.

Throughout her career, Sharon made significant contributions while working for the state of Kansas in the health and environment department. She was an active member of the Kansas workers union, where her commitment to her colleagues mirrored her devotion to her family. Sharon was a steadfast advocate for the well-being of those around her, always striving to make a positive impact in her community.

Sharon’s interests were varied. She treasured quiet moments spent cross stitching, completing crosswords and puzzles, and curling up with a captivating Agatha Christie novel. Her adventurous spirit flourished in her love for cruises, which she enjoyed alongside her late husband. She delighted in gathering pictures of majestic eagles and wolves, reflecting her appreciation for nature. Her love for animals, especially cats, further showcased her nurturing personality.

As a grandmother, Sharon was unwaveringly supportive, always cheering on her grandchildren—Elizabeth (Kevin Van Deusen) McInerney, Ashley McInerney, Gregory Paxton, and Kiera Paxton—in all their endeavors. Music also played an essential role in her life, with Sharon finding joy in playing the piano.

Sharon is survived by her stepdaughter, Linda (Bill) McInerney, son James Paxton, grandchildren, and nephews Jeff (Chelsey) Rake and John (Michelle) Rake.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband Richard Long, her son David Paxton, her brother Roger (Connie) Rake, and her parents, Ferne and Lewis Rake. Each of these individuals left an indelible mark on her life, and her memory of them will continue to resonate with those who knew and loved her.

Sharon's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Per Sharon's wishes, cremation is planned with no formal services.
