Sharon Olson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Dec. 6, 2024.
Sharon Ida Olson, a beacon of love and generosity, left this world on December 3, 2024, at the age of 74, in Palm Harbor, Florida, after a life vibrantly lived and cherished. Born on September 21, 1950, in Chicago, IL, Sharon's journey was one of passion, learning, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community. Her life, though ended abruptly due to a tragic accident, was lived to the fullest, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Sharon lived a life of curiosity and cultural engagement. She was a lover of the arts in every form, often found with a book in her hands or at a local theater, soaking in the stories and performances that mirrored the breadth of the human experience. She was a proud ambassador of her Swedish heritage, celebrating and sharing the rich tapestry of traditions and stories that shaped her identity. Sharon loved to travel with her family, her travels took her far and wide, yet she always carried the warmth of home with her, spreading joy and laughter wherever she roamed.
Professionally, Sharon was a cornerstone in her field, providing expert tax advice and guidance as a tax professional for over three decades. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she partnered with her daughter Tammy and purchased a Once Upon a Child franchise, and later several Plato's Closet stores, where she not only contributed to the growth of the small business but also cultivated a nurturing space for her community. Her work was never just a job; it was an extension of her caring nature, a way to support and uplift those around her.
Family was the heart of Sharon's world. She was an adoring daughter to Ida and Arnie Olson, a loving sister to Bob Olson (Reney) and the late Lenny Olson (Cindy), and a radiant mother to her daughters, Tammy Toren husband Raymond Toren, Lisa Matuszewski husband Peter Matuszewski and Anita Koester husband Michael Vizsolyi. An adoring aunt to many. Her five grandchildren, Nicole, Alex, Auguste, Attila, and Aurora, were the joy of her life. Sharon's legacy is carried on through the love she poured into her family, the lessons she imparted, and the countless memories they created together. Game nights were always full of laughter. She will always reign supreme as the undefeated board game champion.
Those who knew Sharon would describe her with an array of heartwarming adjectives-loving, friendly, and generous only begin to scratch the surface. Her presence was like a warm embrace, her smile a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Sharon had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome, valued, and understood. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate circle, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, and even strangers, with her kindness and compassion.
In the spirit of Sharon's inspiring approach to life, let us recall the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Sharon embodied this notion of success, her life a testament to the impact one person can have on the world around them.
As we say goodbye to Sharon Ida Olson, let us not dwell on the sorrow of her departure but instead celebrate the extraordinary life she led. Let us honor her memory by embracing the arts, cherishing our loved ones, and living with the same loving kindness that she exemplified. Sharon's story may have reached its final chapter, but her spirit continues to inspire and guide us. Today, as we reflect on the life of Sharon Ida Olson, we are reminded of the power of a life well-lived. She has left an indelible mark on the tapestry of our lives, woven with threads of joy, compassion, and unwavering love. Though she has left this earthly realm, her legacy endures in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May we all aspire to live with the same grace and benevolence that Sharon Ida Olson embodied every day of her remarkable life.

Sharon's daughter Anita and I graduated from Goddard College together, and I met Sharon when she came to the graduation, and the celebration afterwards at my home in Vermont. She was such a lovely person. There was a warm light in her that made you feel as if you'd known her all your life. She seemed to smiled with her whole being. I am so shocked and saddened by her sudden loss. Sending thoughts and deep condolences to the family. May your friends lift you up, and your memories embrace and comfort you.

Heartfelt condolences to Sharon´s family and friends. We are a Chicago Police family who were lucky enough to cross paths with Sharon. She was amazing in her profession and we often discussed our love of Florida and Disney. She always spoke so highly of her family. Sharon will be deeply missed.
