William Allen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Feb. 4, 2026.
William Franklin Allen, Jr. passed away February 2, 2026, in Palm Harbor, Florida. Bill was born to William F. Allen, Sr. and Frances Singleton Allen on October 10, 1934, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He graduated from Stone Mountain High School in 1952 as Valedictorian and served his country as a sergeant in the Army Reserves.

Bill's entire working career was in the insurance industry starting with Hartford Insurance in Atlanta, Georgia. With Hartford he moved to Orlando, Florida and then to Tampa, Florida. Facing another relocation Bill decided to leave Hartford and join Copeland, Shelton & Allen, an independent insurance agency in Clearwater, Florida. Eventually he bought out his partners and moved the agency to Dunedin, Florida and renamed it to William F Allen & Associates, where he ran the successful business for 25 years with his wife Sylvia.

In 1971 Bill's family was one of the 13 founding families of North Dunedin Baptist Church, first meeting in rented space on Dunedin Causeway until the church purchased property and built in its current location. Bill faithfully served North Dunedin Baptist Church and was the first Chairman of Deacons.

Bill also served his community as a lifelong Rotarian and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the Board of Mease Hospital and was instrumental in the merger of Mease Hospital and Morton Plant Hospital.

Bill and Sylvia enjoyed traveling the world, however their favorite place was Amelia Island, Florida, where a lifetime of memories were made via numerous family get-togethers. In his younger days Bill enjoyed boating and fishing and later, golfing with his friends and family. He was an avid Rays and Bucs fan!

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Sylvia Blake Allen and his wonderful children: Steve (Jamie) Allen, Cheryl (Tom) Currier, and Joe (Jill) Allen along with 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at North Dunedin Baptist Church March 7, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. with a lunch reception immediately following in the Worship Center.
