Sharon was born August 1, 1932, in Seattle, Washington, to Dennis and Mary (Hyland) Murray. After
graduating from Hollywood High School in 1950, she earned a degree in English from Stanford
University in 1954. Sharon moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she met Richard "Dick" George Painter of
Naugatuck, Connecticut. They were married on February 6, 1955. As an Air Force Fighter Pilot, George's
career took them throughout the United States and Japan. Sharon and Dick were married for 50 years until
his passing in 2005.
As a freelance writer, Sharon's creative career included Sunday feature articles for the Tacoma New

for the 1976 Bi-centennial Committee in Washington D.C. and in 1982, became a staff writer for the
Smurf animation series at Hanna Barbera Studios in Hollywood, California.
In 1986, Sharon moved to Sequim, Washington, joining Faith Lutheran Church, where she helped write
the church newsletter for several years. She also volunteered every Wednesday for the music program at
Avamere Olympic Rehabilitation of Sequim.
As members of the Sequim Bay Yacht Club, she and Dick enjoyed cruising the San Juan Islands,
crabbing, and shrimping. You could also find her spending time with her granddaughters on Lake Chelan
or on a global adventure to France, Hawaii, and Israel. Most of all, she loved rescuing and playing with
her many dogs.

and Lindsay Hill.
